This Makes Me Feel Good

A Dallas fan reacts to a draft pick by the Eagles

You Never Call, You Never Write

Yeah, sorry I've been a little absent. The new job, the new kid, the final paper, I've been a little busy and the blog has suffered. There was a stretch of time I honestly thought about just not blogging anymore. But here I am at lunch, making all of your lives better. You are sooooo welcome.

I got an iPod Touch. It was part my-iPod-broke-why-bother-fixing-it and I-got-a-new-job-present-to-myself. I don't like it. I find the navigation difficult, it's hard to change a song while walking, and fast-forwarding/rewinding is a pain. BUT, I have all the games from the App store final at my disposal, and watching videos of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is a joy. And those are the real reasons I wanted one in the first place.

The new job is great. Great! People are great, the work is right up my alley, and the stress is a billion times lower. I'm happy that my first month is over, as the longer I stay the more secure I feel. This has been a huge change in lifestyle for the good. I'm no longer a stressed out ass when I get home.

I stayed home from Francesca's 6th birthday party to write my final paper for the semester. I didn't get to bowl, but draft 1 is done and not due until a week from Thursday. That makes me very, very happy.

I'm getting fat. I used to be on the second notch in my belt, now I'm on the first. Not sure why. I think it's because a) I'm not running around all day, b) I can't help myself to some candy or fried foods at lunch, and c) summer beer goes down so smooth. I need to work on this.

Jack and Lilah are doing so good. They are so cute and sweet. Lilah loves Jack, especially hanging out with him in his gym. He's getting so big, Lilah is getting so smart. Harley and I always say how much our kids rock.

I'm obsessed with the story of Exodous. Cable television has taken it upon itself to relook at the story from a military, environmental, geological, and medical perspective. Basically, a small group of semites left a drought in Canaan for the powerful empire next door. Two hundred years later, they left. Was Moses a prophet or a great general? Were the Jews slaves or warriors who got too much power? Did God kill the first born, or did the extra grain that given to all first born sons have deadly mold thsat killed them? Whatever the facts were, that has been the spiritual basis of our society for millenia.

The Yankee game was awesome. I'm trying to get into baseball as a means to pass the time until football starts again. I like being a Yankee fan, I just wish they'd start winning again.

Our next vacation starts the week of July 18th. The countdown begins NOW.

What Do I Want For Lunch?

I want something that tastes delicious and will make me smell like a sexy beast. Where should I go? Hmm...

Yeah, this place is perfect!!

Sunday Night Stuff

I said something shocking to Lilah: "Be a good listener or there's no TV tomorrow." I was completely serious, but Harley promptly let me know that would not be an option. To be honest, our apartment is too small to say no TV. We'd all go stir crazy much faster without it. And leaving the house with 2 kids is hard, so better leave the TV option open.

Jack is doing great. He has good nights and bad nights, but his eating is way better, his thighs are getting meaty, his eyes are getting big and blue, and (best of all) he stops crying as soon as I pick him up. Might not sound like a big deal, but when that's the only sign of appreciation you get, you get pretty excited about it.

Lilah is doing great. She's as adorable as always but getting feisty. She yells for what she wants and is pushy. It's the terrible twos mixed with a new baby. Lots of fun. I think we're doing a good job of giving her attention. That girl has no interest in the potty. Zero. She loves her diapers and is perfectly happy not to get it changed. Ugh.

The new job is going very well. It's only been 3 days, but I think it will all work out. I'm a lot less stressed and it makes the rest of my life a whole lot better.

The end of my grad school days are coming into site. After this class, I have a short summer class, a fall class, and then write my thesis in the spring. I've been thinking about my thesis topic, as getting that approved and a faculty sponsor takes time. I'd like to do it on the graphic revolution and the empowered consumer. Not sure what tack I'm going to take, but I'll keep you posted.

My final paper for my current class will be on the John Stewart/Jim Kramer debate and it's role on mass culture. It will more complicated than that, but basically the conversation they had is symbolically allowing the average person affected by the economic crisis to yell at the wealthy and powerful financial industry execs that got us here in the first place. I'll need to figure this out in the next few weeks.

Up first, I'll be doing a shorter paper on the Osbournes variety show. I'm very happy I am not getting an MBA.

Time Warner Cable has FINALLY stepped up their HD programming. I now have most of my favorite channels in HD. And yes, Deadliest Catch in HD is a thousand times better. I still don't have Spike, so I can't watch Ultimate Fighting in HD.

One new channel they have is Palladia (720). It's from MTV and has HD quality live performances 24/7. I didn't expect to love it but do. I've been really into these concerts, especially during the late night feedings when I'm too tired for stories. I've seen:
- Rush's 30 year anniversary concert from Frankfurt (fuck yeah!)
- Foo Fighters in Wembly Stadium (Dave Grohl was unreal in front of 86,000 people)
- Weezer in Tokyo (very disappointing, but I'd never seen Rivers Cuomo smile so much)
- a documentary of some older rockers playing a concert near Mt . Everest. The music was ok, but the footage of Nepal and Himalayas are mesmerizing.
- Sex Pistols at 2006 Isle of White festival (not worth it)
- REM at the same 2006 festival (sucked, I am not a fan)
- Pearl Jam 2006 Storytellers (better than I thought it'd be, but it was all about Eddie Vedder and no one else, kind of weird)

Off to get the laundry out of the dryer. My life is a non-stop action movie.

The New Pepto Bismal

Here it is:

The new graphics highlight the coating nature of the product (which many of you may remember from the commercials) and emphasize Pepto over Bismal.

Harley hates it, but I like this. It actully looks fun, rather than medicinal. And since I only need this product after eating fun foods (wings, ribs, etc), it workls for me.
