I said something shocking to Lilah: "Be a good listener or there's no TV tomorrow." I was completely serious, but Harley promptly let me know that would not be an option. To be honest, our apartment is too small to say no TV. We'd all go stir crazy much faster without it. And leaving the house with 2 kids is hard, so better leave the TV option open.
Jack is doing great. He has good nights and bad nights, but his eating is way better, his thighs are getting meaty, his eyes are getting big and blue, and (best of all) he stops crying as soon as I pick him up. Might not sound like a big deal, but when that's the only sign of appreciation you get, you get pretty excited about it.
Lilah is doing great. She's as adorable as always but getting feisty. She yells for what she wants and is pushy. It's the terrible twos mixed with a new baby. Lots of fun. I think we're doing a good job of giving her attention. That girl has no interest in the potty. Zero. She loves her diapers and is perfectly happy not to get it changed. Ugh.
The new job is going very well. It's only been 3 days, but I think it will all work out. I'm a lot less stressed and it makes the rest of my life a whole lot better.
The end of my grad school days are coming into site. After this class, I have a short summer class, a fall class, and then write my thesis in the spring. I've been thinking about my thesis topic, as getting that approved and a faculty sponsor takes time. I'd like to do it on the graphic revolution and the empowered consumer. Not sure what tack I'm going to take, but I'll keep you posted.
My final paper for my current class will be on the John Stewart/Jim Kramer debate and it's role on mass culture. It will more complicated than that, but basically the conversation they had is symbolically allowing the average person affected by the economic crisis to yell at the wealthy and powerful financial industry execs that got us here in the first place. I'll need to figure this out in the next few weeks.
Up first, I'll be doing a shorter paper on the Osbournes variety show. I'm very happy I am not getting an MBA.
Time Warner Cable has FINALLY stepped up their HD programming. I now have most of my favorite channels in HD. And yes, Deadliest Catch in HD is a thousand times better. I still don't have Spike, so I can't watch Ultimate Fighting in HD.
One new channel they have is Palladia (720). It's from MTV and has HD quality live performances 24/7. I didn't expect to love it but do. I've been really into these concerts, especially during the late night feedings when I'm too tired for stories. I've seen:
- Rush's 30 year anniversary concert from Frankfurt (fuck yeah!)
- Foo Fighters in Wembly Stadium (Dave Grohl was unreal in front of 86,000 people)
- Weezer in Tokyo (very disappointing, but I'd never seen Rivers Cuomo smile so much)
- a documentary of some older rockers playing a concert near Mt . Everest. The music was ok, but the footage of Nepal and Himalayas are mesmerizing.
- Sex Pistols at 2006 Isle of White festival (not worth it)
- REM at the same 2006 festival (sucked, I am not a fan)
- Pearl Jam 2006 Storytellers (better than I thought it'd be, but it was all about Eddie Vedder and no one else, kind of weird)
Off to get the laundry out of the dryer. My life is a non-stop action movie.

Dude, TWC added over 100 new HD/HD on-demand channels last May, maybe you just didn't program Tivo's guide to pick them up? I'm still in love with the caller id on TV feature they added too.
I'm happy Jack & Lilah are both doing great - more pics on the blog please...
TMC did not have the new HD channels in my neck of the woods until very recently. I checked TiVo, I called them and complained, but nothing. Just recently was everything added. Trust me.
This is just like the gray bars on the sides of my screen when the program is 4:3 format (not 16:9). TWC hates the Upper East Side!
And what exactly is wrong with getting an MBA?! Aside from the non-existent job market of course.
That sucks, I know TWC divides up Manhattan into Northen, Southern and the rest, but you'd think us "upstate Manhattanites" would be the ones to get screwed. Well then, WE'VE had over 250 HD & HD-on-demand channels as well as enhanced HD and caller-id for a year now. :-)~
so happy all is well with LAHHAJ. And i agree with your wife -- threatening to take away the TV is never an option. Even if you live in a 2500 sq. ft. house -- taking away the tv from a stay-at-home mom of 2 kids is a death sentence.
